Philippine Consulate General and Philippine Retirement Authority Hold Community Briefing on Retirement Opportunities in the Philippines

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, in coordination with the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) and Philippine Department of Tourism – San Francisco, hosted a Filipino Community Briefing and Orientation on the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) at Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center on 31 May 2026.

The briefing was attended by members of the Filipino American community, retirees, former Filipinos, and foreign nationals interested in retirement and long-term residency opportunities in the Philippines.

In the welcome remarks delivered by Consul Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil on behalf of Consul General Arnel G. Talisayon, the Philippines’ growing reputation as a welcoming and competitive retirement destination in Asia was highlighted, citing the country’s affordability, cultural familiarity, natural attractions, healthcare accessibility, and strong sense of community.

The briefing featured a presentation by PRA Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Roberto Z. Zozobrado, who discussed the latest developments under the SRRV program, including updated eligibility requirements, revised deposit tiers, residency benefits, and investment opportunities available to foreign retirees and former Filipinos. He was accompanied by  Mr. Vernon N. Viloria, Information Officer III under the Client Relations and Program Development Division of the PRA Marketing Department.

Mr. Zozobrado emphasized the Philippines’ comparative advantages as a retirement destination, including lower living costs, English proficiency, expanding healthcare services, access to caregivers, and the country’s globally recognized hospitality sector. He likewise shared opportunities related to retirement-oriented investments and partnerships in the Philippines.

Participants actively engaged during the open forum and raised questions on healthcare access, residency procedures, retirement investments, PhilHealth coverage, and benefits available to SRRV holders.

Following the San Francisco briefing, the PRA delegation proceeded to Sacramento, California for the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) Spring Conference and Trade Show held from 01 to 03 June 2026 at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. The CALA conference provided the PRA with an opportunity to promote the Philippines’ retirement and long-term residency programs to retirement and assisted living stakeholders in the United States, including healthcare professionals, retirement service providers, and senior living industry representatives.
