CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLYMEMBER ROB BONTA

Newly arrived Consul General of the Philippines in San Francisco Neil Frank R. Ferrer  called on California Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-18) virtually via Zoom on 12 February 2021.

Assemblymember Bonta was first elected to the California State Assembly’s 18th District in 2012, where he represents the cities of Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro.  He has held the position ever since, having been reelected in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020.  He is the first Filipino-American state legislator in California.

He was born in Quezon City, Philippines in 1972 and immigrated to the United States with his family when he was two months old.  He is a U.S. citizen at birth through his father.

Assemblymember Bonta extended a warm welcome to Consul General Ferrer and looked forward to closer interactions in the future.  They also discussed the status of COVID-19 in California and the recent rise in hate crimes against Asian-Americans 

Consul General Ferrer remarked during the call that he, “looks forward to an active and vibrant engagement with the Assemblymember, especially on ongoing efforts to assist Filipinos during the pandemic and in taking action to curb recent incidents involving violence against Asian Americans, including Filipinos.” / END
