PH CONSUL GENERAL IN SF DISCUSSES PH STARTUPS WITH SILICON VALLEY BANK OFFICIAL
Philippine Consul General Neil Ferrer meets Priya Rajan, Global Gateway Managing Director of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco on 26 August 2022, to discuss opportunities to support the burgeoning Philippine startup sector. Consul General Ferrer was joined by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, and Trade Commissioner Celynne Layug of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Silicon Valley.
The Consulate presented to Ms. Rajan the “Startup Pilipinas” Framework, the Philippine government’s science-, technology-, and innovation-driven strategy to develop the Philippine startup ecosystem. The said framework outlines the salient features of the Philippine Startup Development Program, including the priority industry clusters and the creation of a startup “fund of funds” called the Startup Venture Fund. Consul General Ferrer said that SVB could be tapped to develop the Philippines startup sector especially on funding, as well as in supporting their entry into the U.S. market.
With 1,000+ startup companies, 200+ co-working spaces, and 35+ incubators and accelerators, the Philippines has the 20th top startup ecosystem in the world in terms of affordable talent. (San Francisco PCG photo)
