PALO, LEYTE SISTER CITY COMMITTEE JOINS NEIGHBORS ABROAD’S INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL IN PALO ALTO

Neighbors Abroad—the non-profit volunteer organization for the sister cities of the Silicon Valley city of Palo Alto, California—organized its International Festival at the Palo Alto Civic Center on 27 August 2022.

The Sister City Committee of Palo, Leyte—led by Neighbors Abroad Co-Vice President Beatrice Duran—participated in the festival and featured Philippine tourism and its ongoing projects, including the Palo Children’s Library and its college scholarship program.

Vice Consul Adrian Baccay represented the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco during the event, where he met Palo Alto Mayor Patrick Burt, Oaxaca City, Mexico Mayor Francisco Martinez Neri, and Neighbors Abroad President Bob Wenzlau. Vice Consul Baccay received from Mayor Martinez Neri a gift from Oaxaca City.

Palo is the oldest sister city of Palo Alto, establishing sister city relations with the Leyte town in 1963. Palo is the site of the 1944 landing of Field Marshal Douglas MacArthur, which launched the campaign to liberate the Philippines during World War II. (Beatrice Duran photos)
