FIRST KALAYAAN SF CONCERT IN TWO YEARS HELD AT SAN FRANCISCO’S SOMA PILIPINAS DISTRICT
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco joined the merry-making at the KalayaanSF Community Concert at 5M Park, SOMA Pilipinas Filipino Cultural Heritage District in San Francisco on 26 June 2022, in celebration of the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
Deputy Consul General Raquel R. Solano joined KalayaanSF Committee Chair Conrad Calalang in the awarding of certificates of recognition to Filipino American medical front liners who held the fort during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Philippine Medical Society of Northern California, the Philippine Nurses Association of Northern California, and the California Nurses Association received the certificates on behalf of the COVID-19 front liners.
Musical acts, cultural dancers, and food and handicraft pop-ups were featured during the event, which was organized by the KalayaanSF Committee and the different Filipino American organizations in the SOMA Pilipinas District. In her remarks, Deputy Consul General Solano expressed her appreciation to the Filipino and Filipino American vendors, artists and performers who took part in the celebration.
Consul Jed Llona, Consul Vanessa Bago-Llona, Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, and Cultural Officer Kristine Quiboloy represented the Consulate during the event. San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey, and Fil-Am Daly City Councilmember Juslyn Manalo attended the celebration.
KalayaanSF, named after the Filipino word for “freedom”, is a series of events held in San Francisco every June to commemorate the anniversary of Philippine independence. Organized annually by the Filipino American Community in the Bay Area with the support of the Consulate, the celebration showcases Philippine culture and heritage, drawing attention to the contributions Filipinos and Filipino Americans have made to their communities.
