Consul General Ferrer Lauds “Larry the Musical” Cast and Crew for Successful Run

CONSUL GENERAL FERRER LAUDS “LARRY THE MUSICAL” CAST AND CREW FOR SUCCESSFUL RUN

Philippine Consul General Neil Ferrer and Madame Miriam Ferrer, along with Consul Jed Llona, attended the final evening performance of “Larry The Musical: An American Journey,” based on a book by the late historian Dr. Dawn Bohulano Mabalon on the life of Filipino American labor and civil rights leader Larry Itliong, at the Brava Theater in San Francisco on 13 April 2024.

Consul General Ferrer met with the musical’s cast and crew—including Director and Choreographer Billy Bustamante, Executive Producer and Writer Gayle Romasanta, and Executive Producer and Composer Bryan Pangilinan—and congratulated the production and artistic team for a successful four-week run.

Also in attendance were relatives of Itliong and Latino American labor leaders Cesar Chavez & Dolores Huerta, Fil-Am Daly City, California Mayor Juslyn Manalo, Delano, California Mayor Joe Alindajao, and Fil-Am Community leader Cynthia Bonta, mother of Fil-Am California Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Itliong was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 2021, in recognition of his role as “one of the most important civil rights leaders of the 20th century and a father of the West Coast labor movement.” His birth anniversary every October 25 is celebrated statewide in California as “Larry Itliong Day” through a legislation that was introduced by then-California State Assemblymember Rob Bonta, and signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
