Filipiñana, Recipient of the 2026 Sundance Special Jury Award, at Roxie Theater at Select Dates this September
Filipiñana, a movie directed by Filipino filmmaker Rafael Manuel, will have its San Francisco run from 4 to 10 September at Roxie Theater, 3117 16th St., San Francisco. A film-screening with a Q&A session with Director Manuel is also scheduled on 5 September 2026.
The film Filipiñana, an international co-production among the Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands, was presented with a World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision during the Sundance Film Festival held last January 2026.

The film follows Isabel, a 17-year-old from the rural north of the Philippines, who works at a posh country club outside Manila. But something is rotting beneath the pristine fairways of the elite resort, as Isabel discovers when she tries to return a mislaid golf club to its patriarchal director, Dr. Palanca.
