Young Fil-Ams Immerse in Philippine Culture During their Cultural Study Visit at the Philippine Center

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – As part of the Filipino Education Center (FEC) Galing Bata’s Padayon Summer Camp 2026, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, welcomed 56 young Filipino Americans who joined the cultural study visit on 16 July 2026 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center.
Through this visit, the Consulate and FEC Galing Bata sought to promote and instill in the younger generation a deeper appreciation of Philippine culture, heritage, and Filipino identity. Deputy Consul General Maria Paz G. Cortes welcomed the summer campers to the Philippine Center and encouraged them to actively participate in the various activities, have fun, and learn more about Philippine culture and traditions in an engaging and meaningful way.

Together with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Silicon Valley (PTIC-SV), the Philippine Department of Tourism Office (PDOT), and the Philippine Center Management Board (PCMB), the Philippine Consulate curated a program of activities featuring five thematic stations designed to engage the summer campers in an interactive and meaningful cultural learning experience. Through these stations, the campers learned about traditional and modern Philippine attire; discovered the Philippines’ beautiful and unique tourism destinations; played traditional Filipino games such as tumbang preso, yoyo, and limbo rock; experienced palabunutan games at a sari-sari store; and learned Filipino words through the children’s song Paa, Tuhod, Balikat, Ulo. To add excitement and cap off the program, the campers were treated to a lively pabitin game, where they joined their fellow campers in a fun and spirited activity.
The Philippine Consulate lauds FEC Galing Bata for its efforts in educating Filipino American students about Philippine culture and fostering a deeper appreciation of their Filipino identity. The Consulate looks forward to continuing its engagement and collaboration with FEC Galing Bata in the conduct of its annual summer camps, as well as providing support for its various initiatives that promote and strengthen awareness of Philippine culture and heritage among the younger generation.END
