PH Consulate Joins the Daly City Philippine Flag-Raising Event in Celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day

DALY CITY, CALIFORNIA – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco joined the Filipino American community in celebrating the 12th Annual Philippine Flag-Raising Ceremony at the City Hall of Daly City, California. The event was hosted by the City Government of Daly City and the Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center (PBRC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the Filipino community in Daly City and throughout San Mateo County. The ceremony highlighted the strong cultural ties and contributions of Filipino Americans to the local community while commemorating Philippine heritage and independence.
Daly City Mayor Glenn Silvester, hosted the program which was attended by San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa, Consul General Ana Valenzuela of the Consulate of El Salvador, representatives from the Office of Senator Scott Wiener, Congressman Kevin Mullins, and Assembly Member Catherine Stefani of District 19, Commissioner Gina Pappan of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Former City of Millbrae Mayor, Daly City Vice Mayor Teresa G. Proaño and councilmembers, and members of the Filipino American community.
In his speech, Mayor Silvester underscored the contributions of the Filipino American community in various fields such as healthcare, education, public service, business, and civic leadership. He also took the opportunity to recognize the generations of Filipino Americans who helped shape Daly City’s history. Mayor Silvester presented to the undersigned a proclamation signed by him and the City councilmembers proclaiming 16 June 2026 as “Philippine Independence Day” in the City of Daly.
On behalf of Consul General Arnel G. Talisayon, Deputy Consul General Maria Paz G. Cortes emphasized each and everyone’s contribution in community-building, stating “As we celebrate today with family and friends, let us also remember that each of us has a role to play in shaping the future of our communities and our nation. Let us continue to embody the values of bayanihan, resilience, compassion, and service that have long defined the Filipino people”. She also took the opportunity to thank PBRC through its founder Ms. Perla Ibarrientos, who initiated the very first Philippine Independence Day flag-raising at the Daly City Hall in 2014, for their organization’s continued endeavor to bring the community together and promote Filipino culture in Daly City.
Following the speeches, Deputy Consul General Cortes and PBRC founder Perla Ibarrientos led the hoisting of the Philippine flag. The PBRC invited all the attendees to join them inside the City Hall for a luncheon featuring Filipino fare. Deputy Consul General Maria Paz G. Cortes, Consul Rowena R. Pangilinan-Daquipil, Vice Consul Glaiza Quarteros, Trade Commissioner Anne Marie Kristine Umali, and other Consulate personnel were present, where more than 100 attendees joined the celebration.END
