SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA –  The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco joined the Filipino American community in supporting the documentary film titled, “The Road to Sydney” which was one of the featured films at the 25th San Francisco Documentary Festival. The festival was held from 28 May to 7 June 2026, at the Vogue Theater in San Francisco.

Directed by Benito Benitez and seven years in the making, the documentary chronicles the life of Jay Loyola, a Filipino American transgender dancer and choreographer originally from Palawan, Philippines. It follows her deeply personal journey of self-discovery as she transitions and embraces her identity as Sydney Loyola. The film explores the challenges and discrimination she encounters in the wake of her transition, while also tracing her path toward healing and reconciliation as she reconnects with her estranged father in the Philippines.

Sydney Loyola shared that the film is not only about her journey but also serves as a tribute to those who are still learning to embrace their authentic selves. It aims to inspire and resonate with people as they navigate their own personal journeys.

The second screening of the film was held at the inaugural Arté Film Festival at the Bankhead Theatre in Livermore on 7 June 2026.END
