SF MAYOR LONDON BREED FETES SAN FRANCISCO-MANILA SISTER CITY COMMITTEE ON 60TH ANNIVERSARY
SAN FRANCISCO, 4 May 2021 – San Francisco City Mayor London Breed honored the San Francisco-Manila Sister City Committee on its 60th founding anniversary on 1 May during the launch of the Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month celebrations in San Francisco in Japan town in the city.
“[Today] we celebrate our sister city relationship, San Francisco City and Manila,” said Mayor Breed.
Ms. Carmen Colet, chairperson of the San Francisco- Manila City Committee, accepted from the Mayor the Asian Pacific American Heritage Awards to commemorate the milestone. She said that the two cities’ relationship spans cultural, educational and humanitarian exchanges.
Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer attended the awarding, which was led by the APA Heritage Celebration Committee, headed by its founder and chair Claudine Cheng.
“It is because of the strong people-to-people relations [that the two cities’ sister city relations have grown through the years]. We have seen the growing Filipino community in San Francisco,” said Consul General Ferrer. He added that the awarding of the San Francisco-Manila Sister City Committee coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Philippines.
The San Francisco-Manila Sister City committee’s mandate is to serve as a cultural and economic link between the two cities, representing the best of what both cities have to offer. END
