SAN FRANCISCO, USA – With the official closing of the 22-month-long overseas voting (OV) registration for the 2025 Philippine national elections last 30 September 2024, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco’s Resident Election Registration Board (RERB) approved 3,046 OV registrations filed from 1 July 2024 to 30 September 2024, during its hearing on 21 October 2024.
This brings the Consulate’s total number of new overseas voters to 17,137, who registered with the Consulate from 9 December 2022 to 30 September 2024.
“I thank the Commission on Elections and the Department of Foreign Affairs for the support they provided, enabling the Consulate to register more Filipino citizens across our jurisdiction. The large number of new overseas voters reflects our vibrant democracy, allowing overseas Filipinos to take part in our national elections,” Consul General Neil Ferrer said in a message.
The RERB is composed of Consul Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil as RERB Chair, and Vice Consul Adrian Baccay and Genevieve Ferrer as RERB Members. Manuel Gamboa and Myla Capuno served as observers during the proceedings.
Among the new overseas voters are Filipino citizens who registered during the Consulate’s consular outreaches in: Salt Lake City, Utah; Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bellevue, Washington; Salinas, California; and Anchorage and Kodiak, Alaska.
The COMELEC has previously announced that it will not extend or reopen the OV registration worldwide, which ran for almost two years. The COMELEC has also announced that online or Internet voting will be the mode of voting in the United States for the 2025 Philippine elections. Advisories on this will be released to the public in due course. END
