PHL CONSULATE OFFICIALS MEET WITH MS. LEWELYN DIXON, HER FAMILY AND TANGGOL MIGRANTE REPRESENTATIVES
(Tacoma, Washington) – On 30 May 2025, the day following the release of Ms. Lewelyn Dixon from the Northwest Immigration Detention Center (NWIDC) in Tacoma, Washington, officials of the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco met with Ms. Dixon and members of her family as well as representatives of Tanggol Migrante.
The group raised a number of concerns and advocated for greater information campaigns in order that what happened to Ms. Dixon will not happen to other Filipino nationals. They also raised the need to provide assistance to the other detainees who may not be fortunate enough to have family who can assist them in gathering documents to support their cases, and urged provision of legal and other assistance to the remaining detainees in the NWIDC.
The Consulate’s representatives thanked Ms. Dixon and her family for their continued involvement and support for the other detainees and assured them that the Consulate, after having visited and interviewed most of the Filipino detainees in the NWIDC the previous day, will extend the necessary assistance taking into account the requests of said detainees, subject to existing rules and regulations. The Consulate’s representatives also informed the group that it will continue to conduct welfare checks on Filipino detainees, either on-site or via video conferencing. The Consulate continues to engage and coordinate with relevant authorities in order to reach Filipino detainees, monitor their cases, and provide appropriate assistance.
The group was likewise informed that the Consulate General in San Francisco, as well as all the other Philippine foreign service posts in the US, is continuing its information campaigns relating to immigration and other issues affecting the Filipino community.
The Consulate hosts a Free Legal Aid Clinic in San Francisco every first Friday of the month, in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, California Chapter.
The Consulate’s representatives also acknowledged the work done by Tanggol Migrante and thanked them for their efforts to support Ms. Dixon and other detainees.
The Consulate remains ready to work with community organizations for the benefit and welfare of Filipinos across its jurisdiction, in the spirit of sincerity, mutual respect and cooperation.
The Consulate notes that, during its Consular Outreach Mission in Bellevue, Washington in April 2025, Consul General Neil Frank Ferrer met with family members of Ms. Dixon, and a separate meeting was likewise held by the Consul General with Tanggol Migrante representatives in Tigard, Oregon last month.
