PHILIPPINE FLAG RISES ABOVE THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER FOR PH INDEPENDENCE DAY

The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, led by Deputy Consul General Raquel Solano, joined the annual Philippine Independence Day celebration at the Santa Clara County Government Center in San Jose, California on 10 June 2023.

The event featured the first Philippine flag-raising ceremony hosted by a local government in the Bay Area—as well as cultural performances, and booths by Fil-Am organizations and businesses.

Deputy Consul General Solano expressed her gratitude to the Bayanihan Fil-Am Foundation (BFF), the Filipino American City Employees (FACEs) of San Jose, and the County of Santa Clara for spearheading the yearly celebration, and lauded the Fil-Am Community for their contributions both in the United States and in the Philippines.

According to the latest U.S. government figures, there are around 107,000 Filipinos and Fil-Ams in Santa Clara County, of whom 67,000 are in San Jose. Santa Clara Valley is more popularly known as “Silicon Valley,” home to the largest tech companies in the world. A huge number of Filipinos and Fil-Ams work in the county’s medical and healthcare sector. (San Francisco PCG photos)
