San Francisco, California – On 2 May 2025, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, led by Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer, welcomed Mr. Koki Mashita, Co-Founder of Aeolus Lab, a startup specializing in precision weather intervention research. Mr. Mashita was accompanied by Mr. Kendrick Kho, President of the Science & Technology Advisory Council-Silicon Valley.
Joining Consul General Ferrer were Deputy Consul General Maria Paz G. Cortes, Consul Rowena R. Pangilinan-Daquipil, and PTIC-SV Trade Commissioner Anne Marie Kristine Umali. The meeting focused on Aeolus Lab’s groundbreaking approach to storm system mitigation and the potential for research collaboration with the Philippines.
Mr. Mashita presented Aeolus Lab’s innovative work in safety-first cloud-seeding technology aimed at preemptively disrupting cyclone energy flow, thereby weakening storm intensity before landfall. The startup plans to conduct simulations, data collection, and small-scale seeding tests using a medium-sized vessel and a sensor-equipped small aircraft, complemented by its proprietary AI-based microphysics simulator.
Recognizing the Philippines’ vulnerability to typhoons and relatively cleaner air quality, Mr. Mashita emphasized the country’s suitability for pilot-scale operations.
Consul General Ferrer welcomed possible collaboration between Aeolus Lab and key Philippine government agencies, as well as local academic institutions, towards advancing weather intervention technologies with global applications.
