PH CONSULATE GENERAL IN SF MEETS FIL-AM UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT


7 October 2021 – Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Frank R. Ferrer met with Utah Valley University (UVU) President Filipino American Dr. Astrid Tuminez via Zoom. He was joined by Deputy Consul General Raquel R. Solano and Consul Vanessa G. Bago-Llona.

7 October 2021 – PH Consul General in SF Neil Ferrer met with Utah Valley University President Filipino American Dr. Astrid Tuminez via Zoom. Dr. Tuminez, who hails from Iloilo, talked about UVU and her pride in her Filipino heritage.

“We are proud to have a Filipino American to lead such an important institution in Utah,” Consul General Ferrer said.

The meeting discussed possible areas of cooperation between UVU and educational institutions in the Philippines. Dr. Tuminez was appointed the seventh president of Utah Valley University in 2018. She was born in a farming village in the Philippine province of Iloilo. She graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in international relations and Russian literature from Brigham Young University (1986) and later earned a master’s degree from Harvard University in Soviet Studies (1988) and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in political science (1996). END
