PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN SAN FRANCISCO MEETS WITH FACULTY OF THE PHILIPPINE STUDIES FACULTY OF THE CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO
Consul General of the Philippines in San Francisco Neil Frank R. Ferrer and the officers of the Philippine Consulate General held a virtual meeting with Dr. Lily Ann Villaraza, Chair, and Dr. Michael Gonzalez, Faculty, of the Philippine Studies Department of the City College of San Francisco (PSD-CCSF) on 08 June 2021 via Zoom.
CCSF is considered as one of the most prominent public, two-year community colleges in the Bay Area. PSD-CCSF is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its establishment this year and is one of the first two ethnic studies departments in the College (along with the African American Studies Department).
Consul General Ferrer congratulated PSD-CCSF on its 50th anniversary and for its recent establishment of the first Philippine Studies Degree in the U.S., with students being able to pursue an Associate Degree effective next academic year. He expressed hope that through PSD-CCSF, more students will be able to pursue opportunities for learning about the Philippines.
Consul General Ferrer and Drs. Villaraza and Gonzalez also discussed possible engagements, particularly through the Consulate’s newly established Sentro Rizal, the Philippines’ official arm to promote its heritage and culture. / END
