San Francisco, California, 29 May 2026 — Memorial Day commemorations held in San Francisco on 24 to 25 May 2026 honored the service and sacrifice of American servicemembers during the Second World War.

On 24 May, the annual USS San Francisco Memorial Commemoration was held at Land’s End to pay tribute to the sailors and Marines of the USS San Francisco (CA‑38). The ceremony reflected on the vessel’s significant contributions to the Pacific campaign, particularly the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. In his remarks, Philippine Consul General in San Francisco, Arnel G. Talisayon, noted the vessel’s important role in operations leading to the liberation of the Philippines.

On 25 May, the 250th Anniversary of the Presidio Memorial Day Commemoration brought together federal, state, military, and community leaders to mark both Memorial Day and the Presidio’s place in the 250‑year history of the United States. Remarks delivered by Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis emphasized honoring the sacrifices of fallen servicemembers. The Philippine Consulate General’s participation in these commemorative events reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to preserving the shared history and longstanding people‑to‑people ties between the Philippines and the United States.END
