PHILIPPINE CONSUL GENERAL IN SAN FRANCISCO MEETS WITH BUSINESS, PRIVATE SECTOR, FIL-AM COMMUNITY LEADERS IN ANCHORAGE DURING CONSULAR OUTREACH
Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Frank R. Ferrer met with various business and industry leaders in Anchorage during the Consulate’s consular outreach mission in Anchorage on 25-28 August 2021.
On 25 August, Consul General Ferrer met with Anchorage Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Bill Popp, who gave an overview of Anchorage’s economy and the municipality’s central role in Alaska’s commerce and cargo industry, as well as opportunities and challenges faced by Anchorage in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Promoting tourism both of Anchorage and the Philippines amid the pandemic was discussed during the meeting of the Consul General and Philippine Tourism Director Soleil Tropicales on 26 August 2021 with Ms. Julie Saupe, President and CEO of Visit Anchorage.
On 27 August, Consul General Ferrer met with ConocoPhillips Alaska President Erec Isaacson and Mr. Ben Stevens, Vice President for External Affairs and Transportation and discussed possible areas of engagement, such as exploring new energy sources for the Philippines and opportunities around low-carbon energy, emission offsets, carbon credits, and green energy, among others.
The Consul General also met various members of the Anchorage private sector and Filipino America leaders, during the Filipino American community Meet and Greet on 24 August 2021, which was organized by the Consular Outreach Planning Committee in Anchorage. Among those who graced the event were: Mr. Bruce Bustamante, president and CEO of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Julie E. Kitka, president of Alaska Federation of Natives, Ms. Malyn Smith (a Filipino American), who is the center director of Alaska Job Corps, a federal government-funded residential training program for at risk youth, ages 16 to 24 years of age, Dr. E.J.R. David, a Filipino American clinical psychologist who lives in Anchorage, and who has been advocating for racial equity. Filipino American Deputy Commissioner for Labor and Workforce Development Nelson San Juan, Honorary Consul Rebecca Carillo, and Consul Vanessa G. Bago-Llona were also present in the meetings of the Consul General. END
