PRESS RELEASE

PH TREASURY INVITES OVERSEAS FILIPINOS TO INVEST IN FIRST-EVER RETAIL DOLLAR BONDS

SAN FRANCISCO, 11 August 2021 – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco on 6 August hosted the U.S. West Coast launch of the Philippine Bureau of the Treasury’s (BTr) first-ever Retail Dollar Bonds (RDBs) through a financial literacy session on its Facebook page: Facebook.com/PHinSF.

“The learning session presents opportunities for overseas Filipinos to invest their hard-earned money in a number of ways, including investing in government financial instruments. Aside from being able to save and invest, our kababayans can also help in the recovery of the Philippines,” Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer said in his welcome remarks.

Philippine Treasurer Rosalia V. De Leon and bank representatives made a presentation and answered questions on how the public can invest in RDBs, which are made available especially to overseas Filipinos with the minimum investment of USD 300.

She also cited some of the benefits of investing in RDBs. “Investors are not only guaranteed a safeguard from potential foreign exchange risks, but more importantly an opportunity to maintain the value of their hard-earned US dollar savings,” Treasurer De Leon said.

According to Treasurer De Leon, funds from the proceeds of the RDBs will be used to spur economic activity and finance the national government’s COVID-19 pandemic response and its massive infrastructure push to maximize economic efficiency.

Aside from the Treasurer, the following served as resource persons of the financial literacy session: Development Bank of the Philippines Senior Manager Jose Angelo Abad, Overseas Filipino Bank Assistant Vice President Jose Emmanuel Valdez, Ms. Adjanni Doce of the Landbank of the Philippines, and Metrobank’s FirstMetroSec Business Development Officer John Philip T. Billones.
