PH Consulate to Host Annual Women’s Month Forum Featuring Bay Area’s Filipina Culture Bearers

PH CONSULATE TO HOST ANNUAL WOMEN’S MONTH FORUM FEATURING BAY AREA’S FILIPINA CULTURE BEARERS

SAN FRANCISCO, USA – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco is celebrating National Women’s Month in the Philippines and Women’s History Month in the United States with a forum which showcases the “women ambassadors” of Philippine culture in the Bay Area.

“Women and Philippine Culture: A Forum with Filipina Culture Bearers in the Bay Area” follows the Women’s Month forum series of the Consulate which, in previous years, featured Filipino women trailblazers in the sectors of high technology (2021), public health and healthcare (2022), and local government (2023).

This year’s forum aims to turn the spotlight on the invaluable role of Filipino women as bearers of Philippine culture in the United States, particularly in the Bay Area where many women community leaders have stepped up to express their pride in being Filipinos through the Philippines’ unique culture, history and heritage.

“In more ways than one, our forum speakers serve as the Philippines’ ‘cultural ambassadors’ who promote a deeper appreciation of the Filipino mindset and way of life to a foreign audience, and especially to younger generations of Fil-Ams who have no living memory of the Philippines,” said Philippine Consul General Neil Ferrer, who will deliver his welcome message during the forum.

The forum will be headlined by: Charm Consolacion, Program Director of the FEC Galing Bata Filipino Bilingual Program; Sonia Delen, President of the Filipino Food Movement,andCo-Founder of the UP Alumni Association of San Francisco Cultural Immersion Summer Camp; Stephanie Herrera, Dance Director of Kariktan Dance Company; Rachel Lozada, Board Member of The Hinabi Project, and Owner of Habiness; Keesa Ocampo, Vice President of the Filipino Food Movement, andOwner of House of Hara; and Lily Ann Villaraza, PhD, Chair of the Philippine Studies Department of the City College of San Francisco.

The forum will take place on 22 March 2024, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Sentro Rizal, 5th Floor, Philippine Center, 447 Sutter Street, San Francisco, California 94108, just off Union Square.
