PH CONSULATE SUPPORTS KALINGA AND TAUSUG CULTURE BEARERS AT PARANGAL’S ADHIKA

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco joined the Filipino American community in supporting ADHIKA, Parangal Dance Company’s first full production at the Yerba Buena Gardens on 4 October 2025. Presented in celebration of the 25th Yerba Buena Gardens Festival and in honor of Filipino American History Month, Philippine Indigenous Peoples Month, and Parangal’s 17th Anniversary, the event featured a series of captivating and much-anticipated dance performances that highlighted the richness of Philippine cultural heritage.

Tausug Culture Bearer Sitti Airia Sangkula Askalani Obeso and Kalinga Culture Bearer Jenny Bawer Young captivated the audience with their heartfelt performances alongside Parangal, showcasing the beauty, depth, and enduring spirit of their respective Indigenous traditions.

Organized by Parangal, Adhika is a special presentation that highlights the group’s commitment to celebrating and preserving the rich traditional arts of the Philippines. Based in San Francisco, Parangal is devoted to promoting Philippine ethnic attire, music, and dance through research, workshops, and performances. The organization serves as a cultural bridge connecting Filipinos in the diaspora to their roots, fostering pride and identity, and educating diverse audiences to deepen understanding and appreciation of Filipino heritage.

Parangal will conduct a two-day Philippine Traditional Dance Workshop at the FilCom Center, Flores Ballroom, Waipahu, Hawaii on 16-17 October 2025. END
