DALY CITY, CALIFORNIA – Under the uncharacteristically warm and sunny Daly City weather, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco joined the annual Kasayahan sa Daly City at Marchbank Park in Daly City, California on 7 October 2023.

Kasayahan sa Daly City serves as the official celebration of Filipino American History Month in Daly City, the “Pinoy Capital” of the Bay Area because of the high concentration of Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the city.

In his remarks, Consul General Neil Ferrer thanked Daly City’s Filipino American Mayor Ray Buenaventura and the Daly City Government for their continued recognition of the significant contributions of close to 34,000 Filipinos and Filipino Americans in Daly City.

Consul General Ferrer also thanked the leadership of Daly City for its efforts in forging closer ties with the Philippines following the visit of officials from the provincial government of Pangasinan last April, and the revival of sister city relations between Daly City and Quezon City last July.

The Philippine Consul General also recognized the vendors, artists and performers who are taking part in Daly City’s annual Filipino American History Month celebration.

“Whether you are sharing with the community your creative take on the purple ‘ube’ or the sizzling sisig, or you are sharing with pride our history and culture through music, dance and fashion, all of the vendors and artists who are present today are ‘citizen ambassadors’ of the Philippines in the Bay Area,” Consul General Ferrer said.

Consul General Ferrer, Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, and Consulate personnel then joined the Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center for a Filipino lunch. The Philippine Consul General also took time to tour the fairgrounds, including Filipino food vendor “Cuzina ni Darna” which sells Ilocos empanada. END
