PH CONSULATE IN SF JOINS FACINE ON ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT, LAUDS FACINE’S ROLE IN PROMOTING FILIPINO FILMS IN THE U.S.

Deputy Consul General and Acting Head of Post Raquel Solano attended a fundraiser of the Filipino Arts and Cinema International (FACINE), organizer of the Filipino International Cine Festival in San Francisco, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on 21 July 2023.

In her remarks, Acting Head of Post Solano commended FACINE “for its efforts in connecting the Filipino diaspora with their homeland, the Philippines, and in igniting a sense of pride and belonging among the Filipino American Community through the power of film.” She also cited the Philippine government’s efforts to support the Philippine film industry through the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act of 2022.

FACINE is mounting the 30th edition of the Filipino International Cine Festival, the longest running Filipino film festival in the United States, in person for the first time in three years on 20-22 October 2023 in San Francisco.

FACINE was formed 30 years ago as part of the opening of San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. In August 1993, FACINE and the Filipino American Arts Exposition (FAAE) respectively staged the then-Filipino American Film & Video Festival and the Pistahan Parade & Festival.
