PH CONSULATE IN SF JOINS BACARRENEOS OF LATHROP ON UBA’S 90TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF BACARRA-LATHROP SISTER CITY TIES
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, represented by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, attended the celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the United Bacarraneos of America (UBA) and the 20th anniversary of the sister city ties between Bacarra, Ilocos Norte and Lathrop, California—held at the Lathrop Community Center on 22 July 2023.
Lathrop Mayor Sonny Dhaliwal, Vice Mayor Paul Akinjo, and former Mayor Gloryanna Rhodes were among the local government officials present during the event. Also in attendance were former Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan Alonto and Madam Jo Alonto.
Vice Consul Baccay noted in his remarks the integral role of Ilocanos in Filipino American history, particularly the manong generation that produced the likes of “America is in The Heart” author Carlos Bulosan and farmworker union leader Larry Itliong. He urged the UBA to foster unity and cooperation within the Filipino Community, and remain engaged in the national life of the Philippines. (San Francisco PCG photos)
