SAN FRANCISCO, USA – Two accomplished young Filipino Americans from Northern California recently participated in the annual immersion to the Philippines of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO).

Consul General Neil Ferrer welcomed the Northern California delegates to the 2024 FYLPRO Immersion Program during the latter’s call at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco on 7 January 2025.

The Philippine Consul General received the following members of the 2024 FYLPRO cohort from Northern California: Jessica De Leon of Burlingame, behavioral neurologist and Assistant Professor at University of California San Francisco (UCSF); and Dyanna Volek of San Francisco, Government Affairs Manager at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

During the call, the aforementioned delegates shared their experience during their immersion in Metro Manila and Iloilo. They also presented their FYLPRO legacy projects, which cover the topics of brain health, and traditional healing practices.

Consul General Ferrer congratulated the Northern California delegates for completing the FYLPRO immersion program, and extended the Consulate’s offer of assistance for their legacy project proposals.

“I congratulate Dr. De Leon and Manager Volek for being chosen to be part of an elite group of young Filipino American leaders for the 2024 FYLPRO Immersion Program. Their accomplishments show the positive impact of Filipino Americans not only on their own community, but also on the American society at large,” Consul General Ferrer said.

“With their newfound connection with the homeland through the immersion program and their leadership roles in the Filipino American Community, I am certain that the special ties between the Philippines and the U.S. will remain strong in the years to come,” Consul General Ferrer also said.

In addition to De Leon and Volek, Christian Aniciete of Beaverton, OR and Michael Baliton of Denver, CO also took part in the 2024 FYLPRO Immersion Program. Oregon and Colorado, which are under the Consulate’s jurisdiction, were among the states that were represented for the very first time at the Immersion Program.

Launched in 2012, the FYLPRO immersion program provides a group of young Filipino American leaders with invaluable government, business and community insights, and access to distinguished network captains of government and industry in the Philippines. END
