SAN FRANCISCO, USA – In celebration of Filipino Food Month in the Bay Area, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco has joined forces with the Filipino Food Movement in organizing the “Filipino Food Market” at the Philippine Center in San Francisco on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Friday of April 2023.

The food market gathers some of the Filipino food and beverage vendors from the Bay Area as well as the Philippines, for a day-long “pop-up” at the Philippine Center.

The food market officially opened on 14 April 2023, with Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Ferrer giving his welcome remarks.

“We are celebrating ‘Filipino Food Month’ this April pursuant to a Philippine presidential proclamation, which recognizes the role of the Philippines’ culinary traditions in highlighting our nation’s character, and in fostering national pride and sense of belonging,” Consul General Ferrer said.

“My special thanks go to the Filipino Food Movement, led by Sonia Delen and Keesa Ocampo, for organizing the very first Filipino Food Market at the Consulate, and for their efforts in advocating for Filipino food and food businesses all year round,” Consul General Ferrer added.

The Philippine Consul General is encouraging all Filipinos and Filipinos at heart to support the food market, which will hold two more runs at the Philippine Center in downtown San Francisco on 21 and 28 April 2023.

On 21 April 2023, a special book signing and forum will be held on the sides of the food market with Filipino celebrity chef and restaurateur Claude Tayag, featuring his book “The Ultimate Filipino Adobo: Stories Through the Ages.”

Meanwhile, on 28 April 2023, a Philippine food and travel panel discussion will take place in partnership with the Philippine Department of Tourism Office in San Francisco, to be headlined by Filipino American event planner and travel enthusiast Anthony Schlander of “Anthony Presents.”

Among the establishments that joined the first Friday of the food market were Azucal Kitchen, Eats Cha Cha Cha, Em’s Kusina, FiliFlavors, House of Hara, Kokak Chocolates, Kusina ni JavenJesel and Tita Pearl, Mahal Scent, Malaya Botanicals, Ube Area, Destileria Barako’s Ube Cream Liqueur, and Ube Galore.
