MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA – The Philippine Consulate attended the event, titled,  Remembering Carlos Bulosan on his Birthday this November: A Tribute to Carlos Bulosan, the Best Filipino Writer of His Time in America, organized by the Philippine News Today held at the Auditorium of the Milpitas Library on 25 November 2025.

On behalf of Consul General Neil Frank Ferrer, Consul Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil delivered remarks underscoring the enduring legacy of Carlos Bulosan as “one of the most influential Filipino writers of the 20th century; a truth-teller, a labor organizer, and a brave advocate for justice and dignity for immigrants, farmworkers, and marginalized communities.” She also expressed appreciation to Mr. Art Madlaing, author of Iti Pusok Ti America, the Ilocano translation of Bulosan’s America Is in the Heart, for his generous book donation.

Mr. Alfred Gabot, Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine News Today, delivered a presentation highlighting Bulosan’s life in Milpitas, San Jose, and San Francisco, where his advocacy for Filipino and immigrant rights took root–advocacy that would later be immortalized in his literary works. At the end of the program, Mr. Gabot also launched and held a book signing for his latest work, California: A Philippine Territory Almost and Other Stories, which features several articles on Carlos Bulosan.

A positive development shared by the organizers is that the dedication of a public library in Los Angeles in honor of Carlos Bulosan is already underway. END
