PH CONSULATE GENERAL IN SAN FRANCISCO JOINS NEW YEAR’S CELEBRATION AND INDUCTION OF OFFICERS OF UP LOS BAÑOS ALUMNI GROUP IN AMERICA

Philippine Deputy Consul General Raquel Solano joined the New Year’s celebration and Induction of Officers of the University of the Philippines Los Baños Alumni Group in America (UPLBAGA) at the American Canyon Adult Activity Center on 14 January 2023.

In her remarks, Deputy Consul General Solano noted that as alumni of UPLB and practitioners in the field of natural sciences, they are familiar with and have access to the latest developments in agriculture and biotechnology. As “Iskolar ng Bayan”, she highlighted the need to give back to the University that shaped and nurtured them, and to the country that needs the skills, talents and creativity and service of its people.

“If there is a way you could facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology to the Philippine agricultural sector, or secure opportunities for collaboration in faculty and student exchange between UPLB and American Universities, or access funding for agricultural research projects for the Philippines, that would be most welcome,” she added.

She also enjoined them to avail of the reacquisition or retention of Filipino citizenship as prescribed in RA 9225, and encouraged them to register as overseas voters in line with the 2025 national elections.

Deputy Consul General Solano also led the oathtaking of the new set of officers of UPLBAGA for 2023 – 2024, led by its President Dr. Ruben Novera.

UPLBAGA, formed in 1996, currently has 154 lifetime members and has supported various projects and causes in UPLB and Los Baños municipality in Laguna amounting to around PhP 3.75 million since its inception. END
