SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco held an orientation seminar on programs and services of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) at the Sentro Rizal, Philippine Center on 23 May 2024. Ms. Macy Monique Maglanque, Labor Attaché and Head of Migrant Workers Office – Los Angeles served as the Resource Person for the event.

Labor Attaché Maglanque discussed the Philippine Migration Management System, which covers the pre-employment/ recruitment stage, on-site welfare services, and reintegration, which are anchored on protective mechanisms/ regulations and human development framework. She also discussed the legal framework for OFW deployment, namely RA 8042, RA 10022, and RA 11641, and enumerated the roles of other key government agencies in the labor migration system. She also explained the mandate of DMW and MWO, including the process of accreditation of employers or principals, and verification of employment contracts.

Other MWO programs and services discussed included labor case management, repatriation assistance, capacity building, and welfare assistance. The official also discussed instances where the DMW Aksyon Fund could be used, i.e. for repatriation, shipment of remains, rescue and evacuation, and financial assistance. END
