PH CONSULATE GENERAL CELEBRATES PHILIPPINE MIGRANT WORKERS’ DAY WITH A FORUM ON FILIPINO AMERICANS

SAN FRANCISCO, USA – In celebration of Migrant Workers Day in the Philippines, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco invited Dr. Neil G. Ruiz, Head of the New Research Initiatives of the Pew Research Center, as a guest speaker to deliver his presentation entitled “The Asian American and Filipino American Experiences: Elevating the Voices and Views of Unheard Voices in Americans” on 7 June 2024 at Sentro Rizal, Philippine Center.

In his message,  Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer emphasized the importance of “understanding the views and perspectives of the Filipino Americans and the challenges they face in order to better support them”.

Dr. Ruiz discussed the results of a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center between July 2022 and January 2023 on Asian Americans. He presented the demographic trends and changes on the group, their views on ethnic identity, as well as on what it means to be American. He also shared experiences of discrimination among Asian Americans, including Filipino Americans. Finally, he noted some findings on Asian Americans’ views towards their ancestral homeland, other places in Asia, and the U.S. END
