PH CONSULATE ATTENDS “PAGLINANG,” THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW OF SF-BASED PARANGAL DANCE COMPANY
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, represented by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay and Cultural Officer Cristine Clasara-Steylaerts, attended the 15th anniversary show of San Francisco-based Parangal Dance Company at the Blue Shield of California Theater, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on 7 October 2023. The event coincided with the celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month in the Philippines, and Filipino American History Month in the U.S.
Entitled “Paglinang,” the show featured the world premiere of Parangal’s interpretations of Mindanaoan and Visayan dances, which received a standing ovation from a full-house crowd. The Consulate also joined Parangal and the SOMA Pilipinas Filipino Cultural Heritage District in a VIP cocktail reception, which featured Philippine-produced Don Papa Rum.
Parangal aims to “pay tribute” to Philippine heritage by preserving and promoting ethnic dance, music and attire, and connect the diaspora with their roots that will give them a sense of pride and identity as Filipinos.
