PH CONSULATE ATTENDS FANHS EAST BAY CHAPTER’S CELEBRATION OF FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco joined the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) East Bay Chapter in its celebration of Filipino American History Month at the Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School—the first public school in the United States named after Fil-Ams—in Union City, California on 7 October 2023.

On behalf of Consul General Neil Ferrer, Vice Consul Adrian Baccay conveyed the Consulate’s greetings to the FANHS East Bay Chapter, led by its President Linda Canlas. Also in attendance was Fil-Am South San Francisco, California Mayor Buenaflor Nicolas.

FANHS co-founders Dr. Fred and Dr. Dorothy Cordova led the first commemoration of Filipino American History Month in 1992. Since then, U.S. federal, state and local governments have issued proclamations celebrating Filipino American History Month and recognizing the contributions of Fil-Ams in American society.
