PH Consul General in SF Discusses Foreign Policy in PH Military Class

5 January 2021, SAN FRANCISCO – Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Frank R. Ferrer made a presentation to the Armed Forces of the Philippines/Development Academy of the Philippines Command and General Staff College Strategy and Policy Course class upon the invitation of Filipino American leader Professor Joaquin “Jay” Gonzalez III, PhD of Golden Gate University.

Consul General Ferrer served as Philippine foreign policy practitioner resource person for the Command and General Staff Course Class 70, which was composed of 113 military officers from the Philippine Army, Air Force, and Navy.

He described the general principles and state policies enunciated in the Philippine Constitution, including the legal and operational frameworks underpinning the implementation of the country’s foreign policy. 

Consul General Ferrer discussed the work of the Consulate General, which is anchored on the three pillars of Philippine foreign policy, including its political and economic engagements to help preserve and enhance national security and attain economic security, and provision of efficient and timely consular services and assistance to nationals in line with the third pillar of promoting the interest and rights of Filipinos overseas.

Given the composition of the class, the Consul General noted the role of the military in international relations, especially in enhancing national security through bilateral defense and security treaties, and participation in peacekeeping missions and humanitarian assistance relevant to international and regional security.
