SAN FRANCISCO, USA – Filipino chocolates and spirits are getting their share of the limelight this Filipino Food Month with “Lasap: A Curated Trade Event Featuring Philippine Chocolate and Alcohol Pairings,” held on 11 April 2023 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center in San Francisco.

The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Silicon Valley partnered with the Filipino Food Movement in organizing “Lasap,” which is a platform to showcase Philippine flavors, food products and ingredients that are primed for distribution in the U.S. market.

In his remarks, Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Ferrer encouraged the restaurateurs, caterers, purveyors, and connoisseurs present to interact with the event’s “impressive line-up of Filipino chocolate and alcohol artisans and sellers from the Philippines and the San Francisco Bay Area.”

“I hope that our amazing chocolates and spirits will leave a lasting impression on you after this event… The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Silicon Valley stand ready to assist you in bringing high-quality and world-class Filipino food products to your kitchens and shelves,” Consul General Ferrer said.

Consul General Ferrer also invited the attendees to the International Food Exhibition (IFEX), the country’s biggest trade show for Philippine food and ingredients, which will take place on 26-28 May 2023 in Metro Manila.

“Lasap” featured the following chocolate and alcohol products: Kokak umami white chocolate bar paired with Alameda Brewery calamansi beer; Auro white chocolate with blackberry plum soju; Oodaalolly Maria Cacao with Kasama Rum; Oodaalolly Maria Sinukuan with Tanduay Boracay Rum Cappuccino; Flavor Bomb with fruit-infused sparkling; Theo & Philo barako coffee chocolate with pinot noir; and Ube Area ube truffle with Ube Cream Liqueur.

“Lasap” served as one of the launching events in the U.S. of the award-winning craft spirit Ube Cream Liqueur—which won as Best Cream Liqueur at the 2022 World Liqueur Awards in the United Kingdom, and the Double Gold and Innovation Award at the SIP Awards in California.

In celebration of Filipino Food Month, the Consulate is also hosting the “Filipino Food Market” on all Fridays of April, featuring Filipino food and beverage businesses in the Bay Area. The Consulate is also slated to launch a social media directory of Filipino restaurants and businesses in the 10 states under its jurisdiction. END
