Filipino Artist AL Abraham Takes Center Stage in Smuin Contemporary Ballet’s “Future Forward”

San Francisco, California –  Filipino talent took center stage as AL Abraham delivered a compelling performance in SMUIN Contemporary Ballet’s Future Forward, captivating audiences with both technical brilliance and emotional depth.

At SMUIN’s opening night on 17 April 2026, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco showed support for AL Abraham’s and SMUIN contemporary ballet’s productionheld at the Cowell Theater, Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture.

During Future Forward, Abraham stood out in Hearts Suite, an excerpt from Hearts (Le Ballet des coeurs), conceptualized by Raquel Bitton and choreographed by Michael Smuin. His performance was marked by precision, expressive nuance, and a strong emotional connection to the piece.

The program also featured the world premiere of Still Falling, choreographed by Amy Seiwert, accompanied live by concert pianist John Wilson, further highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation and artistic excellence.

Future Forward continues its run from May 1-3 at the Lesher Center for the Arts, and from May 14-17 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, offering more audiences the chance to witness Abraham’s remarkable artistry firsthand.

Born and raised in the Philippines, AL Abraham’s dance journey is grounded in discipline, artistry, and passion. He trained at the Effie Nañas Dance Center and later earned a scholarship to the Philippine High School for the Arts and a diploma in Creative Performing Arts from the University of the Philippines.

He has performed with Ballet Philippines, Alice Reyes Dance Philippines, Springfield Ballet, and Oakland Ballet, and has also established himself as a choreographer, with works included in Alice Reyes Dance Philippines’ repertoire.

In 2024, Abraham joined Smuin Contemporary Ballet, marking a key step in his international career.
