SAN FRANCISCO, USA — In its first photo exhibit since the height of the pandemic, the Philippine Consulate General attended the opening of the photo exhibit of Bay Area-based Filipino American portrait and narrative photographer Natalie Schrik at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center in San Francisco on 6 September 2023.

Held under the auspices of Sentro Rizal San Francisco, the Consulate’s cultural hub, the “Sagrada Familia” photo exhibit features Schrik’s collection of photos from Sagrada—her mother’s home village in Baao, Camarines Sur—which she has captured over the last 25 years.

In his remarks, Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Ferrer thanked Schrik for creating an awareness about the Philippines and its people.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to Natalie for creating, through her art, awareness about the Philippines—the rustic beauty of Sagada, the richness of its culture, and the warmth of its people. I commend Natalie for keeping herself connected to her Filipino roots and taking pride in her ancestral heritage, amid the glitz and glamor of her chosen career,” Consul General Ferrer said.

“Similar to the journey that has brought Natalie to Sagrada, may this photo exhibit encourage its viewers—especially Filipinos and Filipino Americans—to travel back in time to their hometowns in the Philippines, and reflect on their own migration journeys as they chart a new life here in the United States,” added Consul General Ferrer.

The photo exhibit will run at the Philippine Center on 447 Sutter Street until 28 September 2023. Inquiries about the exhibition may be sent via email at [email protected]. END
