CREATION OF PHILIPPINE AND ASEAN AI CENTERS IN UP DILIMAN DISCUSSED WITH PH CONSULATE

Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer welcomed Dr. Eugene Rex L. Jalao, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Program of the University of the Philippines on 21 March 2025 at the Philippine Center.
During the courtesy call, Dr. Jalao informed the Consulate that the AI research center is currently based at the University of the Philippines, Diliman and led by faculty members of the College of Engineering. The team is working on operationalizing and scaling up the AI center as a full-fledged academic institution and a research center. Dr. Jalao also shared the AI team’s and students’ successful projects and prototypes, some of which were showcased on international trade shows and already being utilized in various settings.
Consul General Ferrer thanked Dr. Jalao for the updates on the status of AI in the Philippines and the team’s remarkable activities in innovation and in advancing AI technologies. Consul General Ferrer graciously offered the Consulate’s continued support in connecting UP with other universities for academic opportunities, potential investors, startups, and companies under its jurisdiction in order to facilitate the continuous development of the PH AI Center.
