Philippine Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer met with Oregon Governor Kate Brown on 8 September 2021 during the Consulate’s outreach mission in Oregon on 8-11 September 2021.

The Governor warmly welcomed the Consul General to Oregon and extended her good wishes on his recent assumption of duty as head of the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco.

Consul General Ferrer and Governor Brown explored possible areas of cooperation between Oregon and the Philippines, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides exchanged views on Oregon’s current efforts to improve racial equity and justice within the state, by engaging black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) in development policy planning and implementation. The Governor mentioned about the USD20 million in financial and technical assistance which the state extended to vulnerable segments of the state’s population, including BIPOC, during the pandemic.

Governor Brown expressed openness to collaborating with the Consulate in enhancing Oregon’s relations with the Philippines and assured the Consul General of the assistance of her office in addressing matters of mutual interest and concern.-END
