Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Frank Ferrer participated in several activities during the 43rd Annual San Francisco Fleet Week (SFFW) including attending the SFFW Senior Leaders Seminar held at the Marines’ Memorial Club and Hotel on 4-5 October 2023 organized by the SFFW Center for Humanitarian Assistance, and touring the USS John P. Murtha, an amphibious transport ship.
During the first day of the Senior Leaders Seminar, presentations and discussions were featured on international humanitarian assistance in war-torn Syria and Ukraine, as well as a key session on the importance of the International Criminal Court in providing a place where those who commit crimes against humanity are held accountable. During the second day, panel discussions were held on adapting to climate emergencies, as well as on U.S. engagement in the Indo-Pacific region. Consul General Ferrer was joined by Consul Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil during the Senior Leaders Seminar.
The mission of San Francisco Fleet Week is to honor the contribution of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, advance military and civilian cooperation, and to demonstrate the Naval service’s capabilities in humanitarian assistance and disaster response. SSFW began in 1981 during the stint of former San Francisco Mayor and Senator Dianne Feinstein.
For 2023, San Francisco welcomed three U.S. Navy ships, including USS John P. Murtha for the Parade of Ships. Bands from both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps performed several concerts, while the Blue Angels showcased its capabilities with Air Shows. END
