ARTWORK OF PH NATIONAL ARTIST FERNANDO AMORSOLO UNVEILED AT SENTRO FILIPINO SF
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, represented by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, attended the unveiling of a painting by Philippine National Artist for Visual Arts Fernando Amorsolo—held at Sentro Filipino, SOMA Pilipinas District in San Francisco on 30 September 2024.
In his presentation, Sentro Filipino Executive Director Radi Calalang said that the 1947 Amorsolo artwork—unofficially titled “Woman with Mangoes”—was donated by Anna and Luke Fadem of the Salet family, in accordance with the Salet patriarch’s last will.
Amorsolo, the “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art” who became the Philippines’ first officially recognized National Artist in 1972, is best known for his backlighting technique and his depictions of the Philippine countryside. (Lorna Dietz, San Francisco PCG photos)
