SAN FRANCISCO, California – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco partnered with The Hinabi Project, which promotes traditional Philippine textiles, including piña and abaca fabrics, as well as the traditional ikat weaving technique, for a guided tour of the exhibition “The Art of Philippine Textiles,” held on 4 September 2026 at the Sentro Filipino in San Francisco.
The exhibition, organized by The Hinabi Project in partnership with the San Francisco Cultural Center (Sentro Filipino), highlighted the country’s rich weaving traditions, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage and featured a live weaving demonstration.
In his remarks, Consul General Arnel G. Talisayon emphasized that Philippine weaving is more than a traditional craft, describing it as a living expression of identity, memory, and heritage. The patterns, colors, and techniques embodied in Philippine textiles, he noted, carry the stories of communities and generations from across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
He also congratulated Mr. Edwin Lozada, Co-Founder of The Hinabi Project, and the entire The Hinabi Project team, as well as Mr. Conrad “Radi” Calalang, Executive Director of Sentro Filipino, for making Philippine textile traditions accessible to both the Filipino community and an international audience through the exhibition.
The event also took a moment to remember Mr. Anthony Legarda, one of the founders of The Hinabi Project, who recently passed away. Several of his works were featured in the exhibition. “The Art of Philippine Textiles 2026” exhibition will run until September 10. END
