SAN FRANCISCO, 17 August 2026 — From supporting Filipino teachers and seniors to building permanent community spaces and strengthening Filipino-American engagement, Northern California community organizations shared their work, concerns, and aspirations directly with Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) Chairperson Secretary Dante Francis “Klink” Ang II during a Community Town Hall held at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco on 17 August 2026.

Secretary Ang opened the dialogue by sharing the CFO’s priorities for strengthening engagement with Filipinos and succeeding generations overseas. He highlighted opportunities for the diaspora to contribute to Philippine development through the Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL) Program, as well as efforts to reconnect younger Filipino Americans with their heritage through the Youth Leaders in the Diaspora (YouLeaD) program and expanded digital cultural resources under the Virtual Sentro Rizal.

A highlight of the Town Hall was the Community Spotlight, which provided the floor to four Northern California organizations to showcase the work being undertaken by Filipinos for their own communities.

Jose Pecho, Executive Director of the Filipino Community Development Corporation (FCDC), discussed ongoing initiatives on community development and housing, including efforts to advance the long-term goal of establishing permanent Filipino community assets in San Francisco.

Janice Armas, representing the Filipino International Educators / NorCal Filipino J-1 Teachers Association, highlighted the contributions of Filipino educators in American schools and raised concerns faced by J-1 teachers, particularly on professional reintegration upon their return to the Philippines. Secretary Ang noted ongoing CFO coordination with relevant Philippine agencies on issues affecting returning Filipino professionals.

Gabriel Young, representing the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) Northern California, spoke on civic engagement and advocacy on issues affecting Filipino Americans, including dual citizenship concerns and Medicare portability.

Gabby Moraleda, Executive Director of the Pilipino Senior Resource Center (PSRC), presented programs supporting Filipino seniors, including access to social services, healthcare navigation, and naturalization assistance.

The open dialogue also touched on practical concerns raised by the community, including medical missions and donations to the Philippines, healthcare and retirement issues, and Filipino identity. The Town Hall underscored the important role of Filipino community organizations as partners in identifying and responding to the evolving needs of Filipinos overseas. The Consulate looks forward to continuing its engagement with the CFO and Northern California’s diverse Filipino-American community to strengthen services, create opportunities for succeeding generations, and deepen their connection with the Philippines.
