PH Consulate Joins Filipino American Legislators in Celebrating Filipino American History Month at the Capitol

12 August 2026 – Congratulating Assemblymember Jessica M. Caloza and State Senator Christopher Cabaldon for the successful adoption of House Resolution 102 declaring October 2026 as Filipino American History Month across California, the Philippine Consulate General joined the California State Capitol in commemorating the first Filipino American History Month (FAHM) Reception on 03 August 2026. The event highlighted the longstanding presence and contributions of Filipino Americans to California’s social, economic, cultural, and civic life, underscoring that Filipino American history is an integral part of the broader American narrative.

During the program, Assemblymember Jessica Caloza announced the formation of California’s first Filipino American Legislative Caucus, noting that the caucus will strengthen Filipino American representation by ensuring the community has a clear voice and meaningful role in shaping state policy.
Senator Christopher Cabaldon stated that the story of California cannot be told without acknowledging the significant contributions of Filipino Americans, adding that the FAHM is an opportunity to honor this legacy and inspire future generations.
Assemblymember Mike Fong and Cabinet Secretary of the California Governor’s Office Nani Coloretti also conveyed their support for the celebration, recognizing the importance of honoring Filipino American history and the community’s contributions while encouraging engagement and leadership across the state.

The evening concluded with the historic lighting of the California State Capitol Dome in the colors of the Philippine flag, symbolizing recognition of the vibrant culture, resilience, and achievements of Filipino Americans.
The event was hosted by Assemblymember Jessica M. Caloza and Senator Christopher Cabaldon, with honorees including Jason Lustina, Joselyn Geaga-Rosenthal, Emil A. De Guzman, Diosdado “Dado” Banatao, and the Manila International Film Festival – individuals and institutions whose work in public service, community advocacy, technology, arts and cultural preservation has made lasting contributions to the Filipino American community and California.
