SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA –  The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco attended the annual Flores de Mayo celebration organized by the Bessie Carmichael School PK-8 and the Filipino Education Center (FEC) on 22 May 2026. The multicultural event showcased the rich diversity of cultures and traditions represented within the school community.

Hosted by students under the guidance of Ms. Charitylynn Ramilo, a Filipino American third-grade teacher at FEC, the event showcased the community’s rich cultural heritage through a variety of artistic expressions, including visual arts, literary arts, music, and dance performances.

The annual event was supported by the students’ families and friends as well as organizations such as the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) through its Filipino American Center led by its Program Manager, FilAm Jaena Rae Cabrera, the South of Market Community Action Network (SOMCAN), Mission Graduates, the Golden State Warriors, among others. The festival traces its origins to the Philippines, where it is traditionally observed as a month-long celebration held in May. At FEC, Flores de Mayo has evolved beyond its Filipino roots into an inclusive celebration of the diverse cultures, histories, and traditions represented within the school and surrounding community. Through this event, FEC promotes cultural understanding, mutual respect, and appreciation for the rich multicultural heritage that strengthens and unites its students, families, and community partners.END
