TAUSUG CULTURE BEARER SITTI OBESO CALLS ON THE CONSULATE

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Consul General Neil Ferrer, together with other consulate officials, warmly welcomed Tausug Culture Bearer Sitti Obeso or Aunty Lingling during her call at the Consulate on 1 October 2025.
Together with Mr. Eric Solano, artistic director and co-founder of Parangal, a Filipino folk dance and music organization based in San Francisco, Aunty Lingling shared stories about Tausug culture and highlighted artistic performances that have been showcased in various cities in the Philippines, Australia, and the United States.
Consul General Ferrer lauded the efforts of Aunty Lingling in keeping the tradition and culture of the Tausug tribe alive by sharing her passion in performing and sharing her knowledge and expertise to the younger Tausug children and community in Mindanao, and participating in cultural engagements through local festivals and international engagements. Her latest cultural engagement in San Francisco was on 23 September 2025 when she joined Parangal in their performance during the San Francisco Giants Filipino Heritage Night Pre-game Show at the Oracle Park.
In celebration of the Philippine Indigenous Peoples Month, Filipino American History Month, and Parangal’s 17th Anniversary, Tausug culture bearer Sitti Obeso and Kalinga culture bearer Jenny Bawer will join Parangal at an outdoor event titled, Adhika, which will be held on 4 October at the Yerba Buena Gardens. The event is open to the public and free of charge.END
