SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA — Members of the iconic Filipino band Aegis paid a courtesy call on Consul General Neil Ferrer of the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco as they prepare for their highly anticipated concerts in the Bay Area and Nevada. The meeting, which took place on 12 September 2025 at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center, served as a meaningful opportunity to reaffirm the power of music and culture in strengthening Filipino identity abroad and deepening ties in the diaspora.
Renowned for their emotionally resonant songs that continue to touch the hearts of Filipinos worldwide, the members of Aegis expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the support of the Consulate in helping promote Filipino music and culture. The band is set to perform at Redwood City (Fox Theatre) on October 24, and in Reno, Nevada on October 25.
Following the meeting, the band treated attendees to impromptu performances of two of their hit songs “Basang-Basa Sa Ulan” and “Christmas Bonus” to the delight of the audience.
Consul General Ferrer commended the group for their contributions to Philippine music and culture. “When Aegis sings, they bring with them our stories, our hopes, and our heart,” said Consul General Ferrer. “These performances are moments where our kababayans abroad feel connected to home – they remind us that no matter how far we are, our culture, and sound unite us.”
The concert tour will also serve as a tribute to Mercy Sunot, the band’s beloved lead vocalist who passed away in the Bay Area in November 2024 after a battle with cancer. Her sister and fellow band member, Juliet Sunot, expressed deep appreciation for the Consulate’s assistance in facilitating the swift repatriation of Mercy’s remains to the Philippines.
