Puerto Princesa, Palawan – The 2025 Very Important Pinoy (VIP) Tour officially concluded in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, capping off a meaningful and memorable journey that brought together Filipino-Americans as well as Americans from across the United States to reconnect with the beauty, heritage, and heart of the Philippines.
From 11 to 13 July, participants of both the Main VIP Tour, which earlier explored Manila through Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, and the VIP Next Gen Tour, which journeyed through Manila and Siargao, converged in the city of Puerto Princesa, the final leg of the tour. The culminating program in Palawan showcased the province’s unique mix of natural wonders, cultural richness, and inclusive community experiences.
The group’s visit to Puerto Princesa included:
- A city tour that featured the Butterfly Eco-Garden and Tribal Village, where participants learned about local flora and fauna, and interacted with members of the Palaw’an indigenous community;
- A stop at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, where persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) presented heartfelt cultural performances for the group;
- A guided visit to the world-renowned Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (St. Paul’s Underground River)—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
On 13 July, participants selected from a range of immersive activities that highlighted the region’s diverse offerings:
- Island hopping in Honda Bay or Port Barton;
- Cultural immersion with the Batak tribe, one of Palawan’s oldest indigenous groups;
- Or adventure caving at 100 Caves, a limestone cave system known for its impressive formations and ecological significance.
Throughout the Palawan leg, participants were treated not only to breathtaking landscapes but also to deep cultural encounters, allowing for a meaningful reconnection with their roots.
The VIP Tour 2025, a flagship program of the Philippine Foreign Service Posts in the United States led by the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., aims to strengthen cultural, historical, and people-to-people ties between the Philippines and the Filipino-American community. This year’s edition welcomed around 200 participants from across the U.S., with a special emphasis on intergenerational learning and cultural immersion.
