Sacramento, California – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco participated in the California Business Outlook 2025 organized by the California Chamber of Commerce (CalChamber) on 4 June 2025 at the Safe Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento, California.

Representing the Consulate were Consul Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil and Trade Commissioner Anne Marie Kristine Umali, joining members of the Consular Corps, local chamber executives, and business leaders from across the state.

The event opened with remarks from CalChamber President and CEO Jennifer Barrera, who highlighted California’s strengths as the world’s fourth largest economy while addressing challenges such as high costs, unemployment, and housing shortages. She called for policy reforms to improve affordability and streamline housing development.

The event featured discussions on international trade, climate policy, and public safety. Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis and Visit California CEO Carolina Beteta underscored the importance of global tourism and trade, while CARB Chair Liane Randolph outlined California’s climate targets and regulatory priorities.

Dr. Christopher Thornberg of Beacon Economics provided a data-driven outlook, noting the U.S. economy’s resilience but warning against unsustainable borrowing and housing constraints, particularly in California.

Key public safety measures were also discussed by District Attorney of Sacramento County Thien Ho,  including Proposition 36, which strengthens penalties for organized retail crime and fentanyl trafficking.

The Consulate continues to support efforts that foster stronger economic and trade ties between the Philippines and California, and will remain engaged in monitoring developments that affect Filipino businesses and communities in the region. END
