PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GRACES ANNUAL FLORES DE MAYO CELEBRATION AT BESSIE CARMICHAEL SCHOOL – FILIPINO EDUCATION CENTER

San Francisco, California – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco attended the annual Flores de Mayo celebration at Bessie Carmichael School-Filipino Education Center on 16 May 2025.

Students from kindergarten through middle school showcased a variety of traditional Filipino folk dances, including Kapa Malong, Tiruray, Sua Ku Sua, Subli, Pukol, Singkil, Kulintang, and the ever-popular Tinikling. A middle school student group also captivated the audience with a heartfelt rendition of the Filipino song “Buwan” by Juan Karlos.

The multicultural celebration of flowers in May is the school’s culminating activity, honoring both Asian and Spanish traditions. This vibrant event which includes students, school staff, and parents has become an integral part of the broader Asian heritage street celebration in FEC. The Flores de Mayo celebration is a symbol of Filipino pride, unity, and commitment to preserving and sharing the country’s cultural legacy.
